The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes translated as The Transformation) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been called one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Gregor's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka himself never gave an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repelled by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become.

Finnland's Sisu 

According to <a href="https://angeladuckworth.com/research/">research </a>from psychologist <a href="https://angeladuckworth.com/">Angela Duckworth </a>, we can endure so much more when we work towards something that contributes to the world beyond ourselves. To gather firsthand data on sisu for my PhD studies, I completed a 1,500-mile running expedition across New Zealand. I dedicated my run to raising awareness about family violence. Each time I started to feel worn out or was on the verge of giving up, turning to that larger purpose helped me push forward. When you take on a new challenge or need the strength to continue, find a greater purpose to connect with. It can be your family or friends, or someone who inspires you, or a cause that is close to your heart.

1. Find a purpose outside of yourself.

Practice and preparation makes it easier to harness our inner sisu. Studies show that our bodies have <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20592717/">hidden reserves </a>that it naturally draws upon when we need them most. So the more we challenge ourselves, the more we pick up on habits that bolster our resilience.Focusing on my breathing to calm my nervous system was the strategy that improved my running. Over time, I went from a beginner to clocking in 10 to 15 miles a day.

2. Increase resilience through training.

I used to think that in order to be successful, I had to be hard on myself. But there’s a limit to how far you can go if you don’t balance toughness with compassion.In Finland, walking and hiking in nature is a core part of our culture. It helps us find an inner calm and sense of happiness that serves us during hard times.

3. Be gentle with yourself and connect with nature.

Multiple income streams give us options. And options provide us with freedom and peace of mind. That doesn’t mean you need to own many businesses or work 5 side hustles. “Wealth is a plentiful supply of a particular desirable thing.”

Entrepreneurship has long been associated with traits like risk-taking, persistence, and creativity. It’s no surprise, then, many of the world’s most successful companies were brought to life by neurodivergent founders.

Entrepreneurs are neurodivergent

Neurodivergence refers to natural differences in brain function among individuals with conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and bipolar disorder. As this <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11187-018-0059-8">2019 study </a>demonstrates, entrepreneurs appear to experience mental health and addiction issues more frequently than the general public, and tend to have families with these illnesses at a higher rate. Nearly half of entrepreneurs included in the study have one or more mental health conditions. Below the are the numbers for four of the conditions studied. The research also looked at anxiety, but found that levels were similar between entrepreneurs and the sample group.

There are two competing ideas around the link between entrepreneurship and mental health conditions. First, some posit that traits associated with mental health conditions (e.g. hyperfocus for ADHD, or attention to detail for Asperger’s) are assets in the startup world. Secondly, it is also thought that because neurodivergent individuals have more trouble succeeding in conventional frameworks in academia and business, they are more likely to forge their own path by founding companies and pursuing self-employment.

The Aim Of This Study

In Italy, cyberbullying is one of the main discussed topics among middle and high school students. According to the Italian Observatory for Family, Social Policy, and Security , in 2017, 7% of adolescents aged between 11 and 13 years old (specially females) had been the victim of cyberbullying once or more per month. In European and non-European Countries, the rates of cyberbullying vary substantially between studies, with figures ranging from 6.5 to 72% for cyber victimization

Most participants were affirming that the cyber-victim suffers from cyberbullying because “he/she is strange and different from others.” Overall, the participants perceived males as more likely to commit cyberbullying than females. Therefore, it might be assumed that there was a perception of the male gender as more aggressive and violent than female. According to these results, men perceive themselves to be more likely to commit cyberbullying, especially aggressive, violent and threatening types. But this is the perception, not the real bullies - that can differ

The pressure, the sense of isolation and helplessness experienced by cyber-victims also affect their family and the school context. Cyberbullying is acted through digital tools, it is often anonymous, and aims to destroy and psychologically humiliate the victim. There are various forms of cyberbullying that involve different reactions and consequences. However, few studies focused on the adolescents’ perception of cyberbullying. In fact, youths often engage in aggressive behaviors ignoring the feelings and reactions of the victims. Based on these considerations, our article aims to provide a general overview of the spread of the phenomenon and to understand the various types of cyberbullying and its consequences on victims. We will also illustrate a brief evaluation conducted in Italian schools investigating the perception of cyberbullying in a sample of 600 Italian adolescents (11-14 years old). Our work aims to investigate the cognition and the personal perception of youths about cyberbullying and its consequences and to promote educational interventions in school context and outside it.
